Chateau Lettau Winery

The old conventional wisdom in Paso Robles was that only those who owned the best vineyards made the best wines. The new conventional wisdom is that you don’t need to own a great vineyard to make superlative wine; just source the grapes. Ron Nodder of Chateau Lettau has made a living on that new conventional wisdom, sourcing grapes from Monterey County, San Luis Obispo County, and Paso Robles to produce exciting, whimsical wines that are both food-friendly and excellent on their own.

From his tasting room located right on 13th Street in downtown Paso Robles – just one block off the town square – Chateau Lettau owner and winemaker Ron Nodder crafts traditional Bordeaux varietals, Rhone varietals, Zinfandel, Tempranillo, Tannat, Chardonnay, and Albarino into wildly named wines such as Rendezvous, Stiletto, Encore, Secret Stash, and Rockstar. And did we mention the live music? A musician himself, Ron hosts different performers at his tasting room every Friday night. And if you’re wondering about the name Chateau Lettau? It’s his wife’s maiden name. Chateau Lettau does sound a lot better than Chateau Nodder.
