Gary Conway is a man of vision. He focused it and crafted it as an actor and matinee idol in the 1960s and 1970s. Besides being a distinguished painter, he is more active in films than ever, developing TV series, motion pictures, even writing a Broadway Show. His vision was in supreme evidence when he found his lovely wife Marian, a former Miss America. He developed his vision into foresight while scouting Paso Robles for ideal vineyard locations in the late 1970s. His helicopter crashed, and he decided it was a sign for him to purchase the land of the crash site and plant his vineyards there. Today, Gary’s vision for winemaking centers on being truly natural: no grafting, no cloning, no pesticides or chemicals, and absolutely no GMO vines. With his family, he is living his vision at Carmody-McKnight Winery.
Located on Chimney Rock Road in the Adelaida District of the West Side of Paso Robles, Carmody-McKnight is the last winery you pass before you hit Justin, but the first you should taste in Paso Robles. Carmody-McKnight wines are unique and among the very few authentically natural and sustainably produced in the world. Carmody-McKnight’s estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay nourish on their original rootstock, and the soils, the richest known, are abundant in limestone, volcanic magma, and newly discovered wonder soils. Gary’s vision concentrates on classic winemaking and creating the most natural expression of Paso Robles terroir; and through his Carmody-McKnight estate wines, he shares that vision with you.
