August Ridge Vineyards

Watch Our Featured Winery Of The Month Video
Wine flows through the veins of August Ridge Winery owners John and Jill (Zamborelli) Backer. John came from a long line of grape farmers in California’s Central Valley. Jill is from a traditional Italian family, where her grandfather and uncles made their own homemade wine for family celebrations and everyday meals. Shortly after getting married, they decided to settle halfway in between both college alma maters, in the Creston area of Paso Robles. Jill graduated from Sonoma State and John graduated from UC Santa Barbara.

Situated just a stone’s throw from the intersection of Creston Road and Highway 41, August Ridge Winery is well known for their classically styled Italian varietals. The estate vineyard produces Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, and Italian clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. They buy local fruit to make their Pinot Grigio, Primitivo, Barbera and Dolcetto. Additionally, John creates three estate blends including their Gold Medal winning Jovial Super Tuscan and a red table wine named Rocco’s Red in honor of Jill’s great-grandfather, Rocco. Most importantly, because it’s a tradition in Jill’s family to always serve great wine with food, she provides recipes on the August Ridge website that pair perfectly with their wine selections.
